Private ‘Eco’ House, Cheltenham
DESCRIPTION
The house stands on a prominent site in an area of outstanding natural beauty and is a replacement for the ship-lap boarded bungalow that occupied the upper slope of the site.
From the outset the design intent was to produce as ‘sustainable’ a house as possible. Breathing wall technology has been used with Warmcell insulation. The house is heated by a ground-source heat pump.
O’Brien & Price Cheltenham Ltd designed and detailed foundations to cope with shallow sub-surface slips, comprising deep strip foundations and beams.
The super-structure is timber framed utilizing Masonite studs and joists, with Kerto and glued-laminated timber, for trimmers and purlins. O’Brien & Price Cheltenham Ltd prepared floor and wall frame drawings to facilitate construction on site.
